Okura Weed and Pest Management Strategy

This strategy is a resource to help residents with weed and pest animal control  within the subdivision. It was prepared for the Far North District Council (FNDC) as a requirement of the resource consent application.

Control began in 2019 and we have achieved a dramatic drop in the exotic plant and pest animal burden. Most of the lots are clear of weeds and it is only reinvasion which needs to be prevented. The landscape has been changed by the native plantings and there has been a rewarding increase in the number of native birds present.

In addition to the weed species listed, there are pasture weeds which spread easily and can be unsightly. It is expected, for example, that ragwort, thistle species, and blackberry, will be removed before seed production begins.

An outline of the strategy is available below. Current recommendations of methods for management of specific weeds and pest animals are given in detail in the full document. To access the full original and its references, please contact us.
